How to Create a Course Copy

Creating a course copy allows you to duplicate existing courses and customize them for different sections or semesters. This guide will show you how to efficiently create and manage course copies while maintaining your original as a master template.

Starting the Copy Process

Begin by logging into your 21stCenturyEd account. Locate the course you want to make a copy of and click on it to open the course page.

Accessing the Copy Function

Navigate to your admin settings found at the bottom left of the page. Click on "add child course" to initiate the copying process. This function allows you to keep the original as a master copy while creating editable versions for different uses.

Benefits of Master Copies

By using the add child course feature, your original course remains intact as a master template. This means you can make edits to all of your child course copies at once later on if needed, maintaining consistency across multiple sections.

Completing Your Course Copy

You're almost done with the copying process. Simply rename the course to distinguish it from the original and fill in any additional information you want, such as a new course code or section number.

When you're ready, click save and your course copy is complete.

Understanding the Sections Feature

After saving, you'll notice a new tab appear called "sections" where you can view and manage edits to all of your child courses. You're also automatically assigned as an instructor for these new sections, which will appear under your courses tab on your home screen.

Managing Multiple Sections

Each child course section will have its own unique access code for enrolling students. This allows you to maintain separate student rosters for different sections while keeping the course content synchronized when needed.

Please note that each of these sections will have their own access code when enrolling your students, ensuring proper organization and enrollment management.

When to Use Course Copies

Course copies are ideal for:

  • Running the same course across multiple semesters
  • Creating different sections of the same course
  • Testing course changes without affecting your live course
  • Customizing content for different student groups while maintaining a base template

Editing Multiple Copies at Once

One powerful advantage of the master-child course structure is the ability to make updates to your master course that can propagate to all child courses. This saves significant time when you need to update content, fix errors, or improve materials across all your sections.
