How to Enroll Students Using People Picker: Multi-Course

The People Picker Multi-Course feature allows instructors to efficiently enroll existing class rosters into additional courses. This guide will show you how to use the Select Course function to quickly populate student lists and add them to new courses.

Accessing the People Picker

Start by logging into your 21stCenturyEd account. Find the course you're using and click on it to open the course page. Navigate to your Learners tab on the left-hand side of the screen.

Opening the People Picker Tool

From the Learners tab, click "Add" in the top right corner. This will open a dropdown menu where you can select "People Picker" to launch the enrollment tool.

Using the Select Course Function

If you already have an established roster in another course, you can now use the Select Course function to streamline your enrollment process. This feature is ideal for instructors who teach the same students across multiple courses.

Find your course title in the search bar, which will populate the course's current student list automatically. This saves you from having to search for and select students individually.

Selecting All Students at Once

Turn on "Matches" to select all of the students at once from your existing course roster. This bulk selection feature makes it quick and easy to enroll entire classes without manual selection.

Adding Individual Students

You can also individually search for any extra students who may not be in your original roster. Move them to the right side using the arrow button, just as you would with the standard People Picker process.

Completing the Enrollment

When you have all of the students you are looking for selected, click "Add" to enroll them into the new course.

Verifying Student Enrollment

Once added, students will now see the course show up on their dashboard page. Sometimes students will see multiple tabs under courses, such as Teaching or Completed sections, so make sure they are looking in their Enrolled section.

As an instructor, you can confirm successful enrollment by going into your course and checking the Learners tab. Here you will be able to track the progress, assignments, and grades for each student.

Benefits of Multi-Course Enrollment

The Select Course function is particularly useful for:

  • Enrolling the same cohort of students across multiple related courses
  • Setting up sequential courses where students continue together
  • Managing program-based learning where students take multiple courses simultaneously
  • Saving time when you teach multiple subjects to the same class
  • Reducing enrollment errors by copying verified rosters

When to Use Multi-Course vs. Standard People Picker

Use the Multi-Course function when you're enrolling an existing class roster into a new course. Use the standard People Picker when you need to build a roster from scratch or add individual students who aren't part of an existing course.

Managing Multiple Course Rosters

Remember that each course maintains its own independent roster. Changes to one course's enrollment won't automatically affect other courses, giving you flexibility in managing different class compositions over time.
