How to Set Course Duration
Setting the duration of your course establishes clear start and end dates for your students. This guide will walk you through configuring course timing to match your academic schedule.
Accessing Course Settings
Begin by logging into your 21stCenturyEd account. Locate the course you're using and click on it to open the course page. Navigate to the Admin tab located at the bottom left side of the page.
Finding Duration Settings
Once in the Admin section, click on Basics. This is where you'll find the core configuration options for your course. Look for the style section and click the edit button to access the settings.
Configuring Instructor Style
Before setting your course dates, ensure your settings are on the instructor style. This view provides you with the appropriate controls to manage course timing and other administrative functions.
Setting Start and End Dates
With the instructor style active, you can now set the start and end dates for your course. These dates determine:
- When students can begin accessing course content
- The official duration of your course
- When the course will conclude or become archived
Choose dates that align with your academic calendar or program schedule. Click save when you're ready to apply your changes.
Confirming Your Settings
After saving, verify that your course duration has been properly set by reviewing the dates displayed in your course settings. Students will be able to see the course timeline once they enroll.
Best Practices for Course Duration
Consider these tips when setting your course duration:
- Set dates that provide adequate time for all course content
- Allow buffer time before the start date for final preparations
- Consider extending end dates slightly to accommodate late submissions if needed
- Update dates promptly if your schedule changes
Making Changes Later
Course duration can be adjusted at any time by returning to the Admin tab, accessing Basics, and editing the date fields. Remember to save your changes after making any updates.
